Public attention recently has focused on Zika, but other mosquito vectored diseases are on the rise. The island of Hawaii is currently experiencing a drastic increase in dengue: over 250 cases since October 2015. The 2008 recession caused budget problems for Hawaii and one of the casualties was mosquito control. As a consequence, they lacked enough mosquito control experts to detect the problem as it was rising. Now they are scrambling to catch up.
