Glassworm
Photo: ViridiflavusGlassworms or Phantom Midges are midge larvae in the Genus Chaoborus. This genus is distributed globally and is found in lakes. The larvae are predators that feed on small crustaceans and mosquito larvae. Glassworms capture prey with their prehensile antennae. Their transparency helps conceal them from their prey and from predatory fish.
